THE driving rain failed to derail Gremlins CC’s charge to a record seventh straight win at Bridgwater Carnival last night.

Tens of thousands of spectators braved the miserable weather to see yet another spectacular show.

Gremlins’ cart, Wild Bill’s Run Away Train, won the local feature and tableau class.

The giant locomotive was flanked by rows of spinning, illuminated wheels, with plenty of rootin’, tootin’ cowboys on board.

Ramblers CC’s stunning Guardians of the Deep was second. It featured moving sharks, squid and other sea creatures.

North Petherton’s main club Pentathlon CC produced a gem of an entry, At the Bottom of the Garden, to take the open tableau class, beating last year’s joint county cup winners Gemini into second.

Another hugely impressive cart, The Odyssey, from Masqueraders CC of Meare, took the open feature class, while there were also wins for Newmarket CC of Bridgwater in the comic feature class, and Marina Sydenham JCC in the juvenile cart category.
