A SERIES of road closures will be put in place today to make sure the carnival procession and daytime entertainment runs as smoothly as possible.

The High Street, Clare Street, York Buildings, Lamb Lane and Cornhill are now closed for the street entertainment during the lead up to the parade.

Closed from 4.30pm: Broadway (northbound) from Salmon Parade to put up the grandstands.

Closed from 5.30pm: Broadway from the junction with Penel Orlieu to put up the grandstands.

Closed from 6.15pm: Bath Road/Bower Lane; Bath Road/Parkway; Westonzoyland Road/Parkway; Parkway/Sydenham Road (at the junction nearest Bath Road); Bristol Road/The Drove; The Clink/The Leggar; Eastover/Church Street; Eastover/Monmouth Street; Eastover/St John Street; St John Street/Barclay Street; St John Street/Westonzoyland Road; Town Bridge/Binford Place; Town Bridge/Salmon Parade; Town Bridge/Eastover; Salmon Parade/Broadway Northbound; Salmon Parade/Broadway Southbound; Dampiet Street/George Street; Mount Street/Angel Place; North Street/Wembdon Road; Taunton Road/Showground Roundabout; Old Taunton Road/Broadway; West Street/St Matthews Field.

As the tail of the procession proceeds along the route, additional physical closure points will be installed to preserve the safety of spectators and the procession. These closure points are: Bath Road (in bound) at the junction with College Way; Monmouth Street (southbound) at Cross Rifles; Broadway (southbound) at Eastover junction; Broadway (northbound and southbound) at Salmon Parade junction; St Mary Street at junction with Little St Mary Street; Broadway (northbound) at Penel Orlieu junction; Taunton Road at junction with Broadway.

Roads are expected to re-open progressively as the end of the procession makes its way around the town.
