STREET collections from North Petherton Carnival were £2,000 up on last year, but those at Bridgwater Carnival were £3,000 down.
A total of £15,662 was collected at North Petherton's procession on Saturday night, an improvement on 2008, when torrential rain kept many spectators away.
North Petherton Carnival president Eileen Brunton said: "We are quite happy with that. Every carnival committee neeeds money at the moment to ensure carnival survives."
At Bridgwater on Friday night, collections totalled £24,000.
Bridgwater Carnival collection officer Mark Robson said: "We have to thank the people for their generosity, giving to carnival all year round, and the collectors for their fantastic work.“I would also like to thank all the charities and collection sub-committee.”
