THIS week, in our series featuring the groups which benefit from Bridgwater Carnival, the Mercury has spoken to a lifetime member of the Youth Hostel Association.
Richard Elloway, right, said collections at Bridgwater Carnival really help charities like the YHA’s in-house charity, Breaks4Kids, which helps provide holidays for disabled and disadvantaged children.
He said: “We collect for carnival and 50% of what we get goes towards the charity, which aims to provide young people with a rich experience in beautiful locations in England and Wales.
“The money’s spread nationally.
“Disadvantaged children go to a youth hostel with friends for an educational experience using outdoor pursuits, such as rock climbing, beach activities and team building.
“Bridgwater Carnival’s a great way to raise awareness of the charity, but I also enjoy raising money for the carnival itself.”
