MORE than 800 students from Bridgwater College crammed into The Palace nightclub for the first party of the new term.

The ‘Fresher’s Foam Party’ was held at the venue in Penel Orlieu last week and proved a success, with all 850 tickets sold, and students are now looking forward to their next big night out.

Georgia Hodges, students’ union president, told the Mercury: “It was really successful. We had lots of good feedback saying how brilliant it was. It was really busy, selling out in just one week.

“The Palace provides a great venue for the SU to hold our parties and at bigger events like RAG day they let us use our own DJ.

“For Oxjam last year, which is our next party on November 15, The Palace also offered us a discount, as it was for a charity.”

The Student Union and staff from Student Support checked ID and tickets on the door to ensure only College students were admitted.

Clive Lilley, owner of the Palace, said: “The Student Union has had parties here for many years. We work closely with the SU to ensure it’s a safe night out for students.

“Anyone over 18 with ID is given a wristband and people without ID were not served alcohol. We generally don’t get much trouble because people know the rules.

“It’s very important when students are new to build their confidence and that means providing a safe place for them to have a nice time.”
