VILLAGERS are being asked if they want their streetlights turned off in the middle of the night.

Burrowbridge Parish Council has express interest in taking part in a trial scheme which will see lights turned off between midnight and 5.30am to reduce energy consumption and light pollution.

Somerset County Council Cabinet Member Harvey Siggs said: ā€œIā€™m sure people in Somerset will welcome the choice of how their streets are lit and the opportunity to contribute to cash savings and darker skies.ā€

The three year trial involves 14 parishes in the first phase. Seven further phases will include parishes that express an interest.
