MOTORISTS and passers-by have got used to seeing bricks piled up where a business once thrived ... but now the former Paragon Laundry site in Taunton Road, Bridgwater, could finally be on the verge of redevelopment.

Andrew Maynard, partner at estate agents Alder King, which is jointly handling the site with McKinley’s, told the Mercury: “It is currently under offer and in solicitors’ hands.

“We were pleasantly surprised by the level of interest.

“We were instructed a few months ago and we very quickly received quite a lot of interest and a number of offers.

“We are still getting a steady stream of enquiries. It’s very positive.”

Mr Maynard declined to comment on who has made the offer but said the site was likely to be developed as a mixed use, including homes and commercial units.

He said of the level of interest: “I think it’s because there doesn’t seem to be much availability of sites of this size in this area of town.”

The laundry was destroyed in a massive fire in August 2009 but the site is still owned by Paragon.
