A FIRE service welfare unit for emergency catering has been supported by Bridgwater’s Salvation Army.
The new Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) Welfare Pod will be unveiled this weekend in preparation for its deployment as support and catering at emergency incidents.
The Salvation Army Red Shield Emergency Service offers a safe place for those who have been evacuated from their homes, trained personnel to provide support and a fleet of purpose built mobile canteens.
For nearly 40 years, volunteers from The Salvation Army, Bridgwater, have been available day or night to respond to requests for catering support of Somerset Fire Service, then subsequently DSFRS.
The ‘Pods’ will not only provide a modern kitchen, but also toilet facilities as well as a rest area for the Fire Service Personnel.
