THE PRESIDENT of Bridgwater Carnival has supported a county-wide celebration of art by attending an exhibition.
Pete Bastin officially opened an exhibition by artist Helmi Wolff, of Gloucester Road, who is currently showcasing a collection of embroidery, quilting, fabric art, pottery, sculpture, jewellery and more as part of Somerset Art Weeks 2012.
Helmi, 76, told the Mercury: “I was thrilled to have his support and we had a really good turnout for the opening.
“I’ve had great interest, especially in my Aboriginal/Australian collection, but I’d like to see even more people attend the exhibition.”
There are four rooms of artwork by Helmi and her partner, Derek Whitty, and some of the proceeds will go to St Margaret’s Hospice, MS and MIND.
The exhibition is being held at 2 Gloucester Road until Sunday, September 30.
