COOKS can get their hands on traditional recipes made by the Moorland and Fordgate community.

More than 400 copies of The Residents Recipe Cook Book have been sold to help raise cash for Moorland Village Hall and the Church of St Peter and St John in Northmoor Green.

The book started as an idea put forward by Maria Maye, of Fordgate, to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee and saw a variety of family recipes handed over from the community.

She said: “I’ve had a great response and a lot of the recipes have been passed down through local families.

“There’s even a recipe for the Queen Mother’s favourite cake, passed to a resident, Betty Gibbs. It must not be given away but sold for 10p and the money donated to charity, which is included in the book’s price.”

Kate Symonds wrote to the Queen letting Her Majesty know about the Jubilee celebrations and the book and was delighted to receive a letter of response commending the villages’ efforts.

The book can be purchased for £5 from Pyne the Butcher in North Petherton. There are only 100 copies left.
