FAMILIES hoping to get on the property ladder could benefit from 200 affordable homes at Kings Down in Bridgwater.

Partners from organisations involved, including Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), Sedgemoor District Council, Hallam Land, Barratt and David Wilson Homes joined Yarlington Housing Group to celebrate the culmination of the project designed to provide much-needed homes in Sedgemoor on Friday (August 24).

Following an investment of more than £11million from HCA, it is part of a programme which aims to unlock stalled housing developments and could bring up to 2,000 homes and 3,000 jobs to the area.

Sedgemoor’s affordable housing development manager, Duncan Harvey, said: “With the global recession biting hard, many people face a huge challenge in finding a suitable, affordable place to live. The provision of new affordable homes is a top priority for the Council.

“Kings Down forms part of an important transformational plan for north east Bridgwater, bringing jobs, homes and regeneration to the town. Not only have these new homes helped kick start the transformation process, they are helping many people to live healthier and happier lives.”

Gary Orr, chief executive of Yarlington Housing Group, said: “It is not only about providing homes but about building communities and bringing people together for the benefit of all.

“Now our part of the project is complete we look forward to building a future with our residents of Kings Down, with Bridgwater as the place where they choose to live, learn and work.”
