A BRIDGWATER biker and his friend are taking a sponsored ride for a malaria charity.

Adrian Clancy, of North Petherton, and Zsolt Varkonyi, of Weston, will set off by ferry for Belfast from Glasgow on Sunday, August 19, with the aim of travelling down through Ireland to catch another ferry from Rosslare to Pembroke before riding across South Wales to Bristol, hopefully reaching London on Monday, August 20 – World Mosquito Day.

The ride will raise money for the Malaria No More charity.

Adrian, 38, said: “I decided to do it after watching footage on sport relief of the damage and heartache malaria causes in Africa every day.

“Approximately 1,800 people a day, mostly babies, die from malaria, most of them in Africa.

“The disease is spread by mosquitoes which gather in stagnant pools of water.”

A £5 donation will supply a mosquito net to a family in Africa which can help protect two people from mosquito bites.
