FIVE people have been rescued from a flat in Bridgwater after a blaze there just before 1am today (August 5).
The fire crew first on the scene called for backup after finding the flat well alight, with three fire engines from Taunton and Bridgwater attending the Eastwood Close incident in total.
The first floor flat was consumed by fire and crews got to work rescuing people and firefighting.
At the height of operations, they used four breathing apparatus sets, two thermal imaging cameras, two main jets, one hose reel jet and a triple extension ladder.
One room within one of the flats was completely destroyed by fire and the remainder of it was totally damaged by smoke and heat.
Firefighters remained on the scene for some time to damp down hotspots with investigation of possible fire spread risk, but have now left. Fire investigation will continue this morning.
