FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze at a house in Holford Road, Bridgwater, this morning (July 27).

Two Bridgwater crews arrived to tackle the flames engulfing the roof, but due to widespread calls from the public a further team was brought in from Taunton.

On arriving, the Incident Commander requested another two fire crews attend for manpower from Taunton and Burnham. An Incident Command Unit from Street was also sent in.

A fire service spokesman said: “The property was a detached chalet style dwelling with fire damage to the roof and first floor.

“Crews used three hose reel jets and a covering jet, three triple extension ladders, two roof ladders, Safety at Height and Confined Space equipment, small tools and water from a hydrant to fight the fire.

“They also carried out salvage of property from within the house.

“An ambulance was requested to treat an adult male who was suffering smoke inhalation.”
