BELLS rung out across Somerset this morning to mark the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

These bell-ringers in Cannington were among those marking the occasion at 8.12am, exactly 12 hours before the Opening Ceremony gets under way.

In Taunton, Somerset County Cricket Club captain Marcus Trescothick joined sailors from the Royal Navy frigate HMS Somerset to ring a bell at the County Ground.
