Decision on Bridgwater eco-park is delayed

A DECISION on whether or not to create a giant eco-park in south-west Bridgwater has been delayed.

Sedgemoor District Council has resolved to discuss The Meads project at a special meeting on Augsut 8, following a meeting of its executive today.

A public meeting will be held prior to the council meeting on that date to explain the nature of the project, which is part of the 'Bridgwater Vision'.

It's been put off to ensure that the people of Bridgwater understand the implications of approving the Ecopark. The biggest part of the land involved is owned by Summerfield housing developments. They are unlikely to donate the land and pay for creation of the ecopark out of the goodness of their hearts. They would be looking to build 300 houses on the field next to the Fairfield (St Matthews Field) and a road would be built over the Fairfield for access to the houses. As we can already walk on the 'ecopark' fields (public rights of way) I don't want the road on the Fairfield in exchange for a better path and some wooden seats.

Just looked at the plans on the web. Looks like another rouse to build yet more houses up to 500!
The council better think again if they want to put roads and car parks across the Fairfield we don't need them to create an Ecopark it's already there !

Not quite sure what the council are up to. Why spoil this last unspoilt area of the town with man made seats,shelters public art(graffiti) footpaths. waste bins, dog bins, static information boards, way marking, cycle paths, sensory trails, community orchards etc etc etc doesn't sound very Eco to me. Leave the land as nature intended untouched. If the council go ahead with this plan they will be responsible for destroying the last area of land in Bridgwater which is untouched by developers- hold on just read there is going to be another 300 houses built to finance the Ecopark ?

PLEASE inform your Ward councillor of your views and attend the public meeting on August 8th. Unless everyone speaks up very loudly NOW this ecopark will get the go-ahead.

Yes please I would like to see this brilliant project go ahead excellent news for the whole of Bridgwater! Don't let some Durleigh based Nimbys kill off such an excellent idea.

Anybody who sees this as anything more than a sugar coated sell off to a house developer is sadly deluded. More homes means more traffic on already heavily congested roads, more waiting to see a Dr when you're ill cos there are now more people but no more Drs, The Meads is a beautiful 'unspoilt' area and one of the last remaining such areas in Bridgwater, to turn it into a landscaped park with cycle paths, benches etc is a hideous idea
