GERBER Juice, the UK’s largest manufacturer of fruit juice and one of Bridgwater’s biggest employers, has announced its continued support and sponsorship for Carnival 2012.

To celebrate the continuing link between Gerber and Carnival, representatives from Gerber met Bridgwater Carnival committee members to greet the arrival of a mystery package destined for Carnival 2012.

Carnival has raised a staggering £600,000 for local charities and good causes in the last 25 years and Gerber is determined to help increase this figure.

Arriving at Gerber’s UK|headquarters at Express Park, a mystery consignment was carefully unloaded and is now subject to a 24-hour surveillance operation until its|official opening at this year’s Bath & West Show.

Alan Armstead, Gerber Juice’s|logistics manager, said: “We are a local company and recognise the vital role Carnival plays in helping more disadvantaged individuals within the area to overcome|adversity and lead more fulfilling lives. We have the expertise and enthusiasm to make a difference and we can’t wait to let the whole town in on the secret.”

Donations received during the parades have enabled charities to continue their work – recipients include St Margaret’s Hospice, Break 4 Kids, Children’s Hospice South West and Freewheelers.

With this year’s Carnival parade taking place on a Saturday, collections manager Mark Robson is expecting both a record turnout and collection.

He said: “Carnival spectators have been incredibly generous but we hope with our new initiative more and more people will be persuaded to make a small donation.

“A donation of just £1 per person would make a significant difference to the lives of so many.”

The mystery of the box is expected to be unveiled at the Bath & West Show on June 2.
