Bridgwater College's land-based studies area held its first ever higher education careers convention last week.
The event was attended by over 30 industry speakers from around the South West, with over 100 higher education students seeking specialist career advice and guidance.
Speakers included Keith Hayman, from Bournemouth University and John Peters, from Worcester University, who highlighted the importance of other skills they could acquire during their studies.
Students then took part in a series of talks and seminars, including one with the British Red Cross on voluntary and charity jobs and Sedgemoor District Council on working in the local authority and interview techniques. Former student Will Brett spoke of how he has set up his own landscape design and construction company.
Adam Curtis, from Mole Valley Farmers said: “It has been an excellent day and we are always pleased to support Bridgwater College's Cannington Centre. Our business is based on people and we are therefore keen to take the opportunity to speak with potential employees of the future.”
Sarah Buchanan, a second year landscape design student said: “It's been great to speak with such a wide variety of potential employers to hear what they are looking for in graduates. I have managed to get some value contacts for the future.”
