THE Weekly News today gives readers a first glimpse of the new £8million leisure complex being built in Brean.

Brean Leisure Park owners the House family invited our cameras in for a sneak peak at the Brean Splash Waterpark.

The first phase of work on the £1.6million swimming pool, children's play area with shooting water jets, and cafe is now complete and open to guests and members of the public.

Also on offer are swimming lessons, parent/toddler, infant and junior sessions, lane swimming, private hire, and lifeguard training.

Sarah House from Brean Leisure Park said: “This new facility is enhancing the leisure facilities on offer to the residents in Sedgemoor and we will be taking part in the BBC's Big Splash promotion to get more people swimming in 2011.”

The total cost of the new water park is £8million; it will be completed over three phases in the next two to five years, and should create more than 20 new jobs.

A 16m x 16m outdoor pool is being built and should open in time for the summer holidays and will feature an outdoor play area and waterslides and a retractable roof which can be removed on sunny days.

The final phase of the project will see the entire complex enclosed with an extra leisure facility built featuring a 120-seat motion theatre and entertainment centre.
