SCORES of youngsters gathered in Bridgwater to learn about Somerset’s emergency support system.

A total of 80 Badgers aged five to ten paid a visit to St John Ambulance Somerset’s county HQ at Dunball to meet life-savers.

There were representatives from Burnham coastguards, police, South West Ambulance, Weston, Musgrove and Frenchay hospitals, Bridgwater Fire Station, Community Fire Support, St John Ambulance, and St John Ambulance cadets.

Carolyn Newton, St John Ambulance Somerset Badger leader, said: “The badgers were busy having 20 minute workshops with each agency, finding out what they did and the range of equipment they used to rescue and help people.

“First aid can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved. We teach first aid to very young children and know that they are more than capable of learning these skills and in some cases saving the lives of their friends and family.

“This day was aimed at expanding their knowledge so they are fully prepared to act responsibly in an emergency.”
