A HOST of star names are set to descend on Sedgemoor for a celebrity fundraising football match next weekend.

Big names from the world of sport and TV, including Gaizka Mendieta, who once broke the world record transfer fee for a footballer, are playing in the game at Pawlett Pavilion next Sunday (May 15).

Tony Cartwright is organising the event to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

He was inspired to fundraise after his sister Tracey Browne, of West Huntspill, overcame breast cancer only for it to return. Tony is hoping to raise at least £12,000.

Other famous faces set to turn up on the day include ex-Premier League stars Curtis Fleming and Craig Hignett, Ziggy Lichman and Anthony Hutton from Big Brother, and soap actors Kelvin Fletcher, and Luke and Elliot Tittensor.

This week the likes of Will Rush from Waterloo Road and former goalkeeper Marlon Beresford have added their names to the bill.

Tony said he also hopes to secure the services of ex-Manchester United midfielder Andy Ritchie and Norwich City legend Darren Huckerby.

He added: “We have been busy making the final preparations for the big day and have put up loads of flyers so we are hoping for a really good turnout.”

The night before the match, the celebrities will enjoy a glitzy bash at Laburnum House in West Huntspill, which will feature performances from pop acts Kevin Simm from Liberty X and Brother Beyond's Nathan Moore.

Tickets cost £4-£5 from Pawlett Pavilion on 01278-685225.
