SOME of the town's finest young musicians gathered at Bridgwater College for a competition held by Sedgemoor Rotary Club.

The Sedgemoor Rotary Club Young Musician Competition attracted aspiring musicians from the area to compete in three age sections.

Andrew Midenda was crowned winner of the junior section for his relaxing saxophone rendition of Careless Whisper by George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, while Sion Wilson was runner up for her performance of Jimmy Cox's Nobody Knows When You're Down and Out on the guitar.

The winner of the intermediate section was Daniel Rossiter with two drum solos, Cazza's Improv by Aidan Geary and Jack Richards' Stand By.

Runner up was Ben Wilson for his medley of guitar tunes, including the Eastenders theme tune.

Josh Redman-Thomas won the senior section for his atmospheric performance of Antione Dufour's Ashes on the Sea. The judges said as soon as Josh started to play, he was “at one” with his instrument.

Benedicta Fones was runner up with her piano renditions of Soiree Polka by Stephen Foster and Elegie from Album des Enfant by Cecile Chaminade.

The most promising young musician title was given to eight-year-old Molly Pickles for her competent performance of The Skye Boat Song on the flute.

The organisers are grateful to judges Roger Johnson, Lin Willis and David Organ for their contribution and Bridgwater College for use of facilities.
