A 19-YEAR-OLD man was killed after a car crashed into a telegraph pole and caught fire in East Brent in the early hours on Saturday has been named locally as Billy Davis from Weston.

Police were called to the accident scene on the A370 Bridgwater to Weston road shortly after 2am.

The vehicle, a BMW 328, hit a telegraph pole and ended up in a hedge. No other vehicles were involved. Mr Davis died at the scene.

Another man and a teenage girl, who were also in the car, were injured, and were taken to hospital. The girl suffered neck injuries and the man suffered back injuries.

The A370 was closed throughout the morning while firefighters and police were at the scene.
