A GROUP of six plucky Bridgwater parents sat a science GCSE exam before their children.

Last year Chilton Trinity Technology College launched its One Step Ahead class for parents of year nine students.

The scheme gave the adult learners the chance to take the exam before their children were due to sit the same test so they could give extra them support.

After studying hard for one session every week over the last year the parents have all now been rewarded after passing their exams with flying colours.

Impressed director of specialism at the school and course organiser Paul Cadmore said: “At the end of the course the parents gained grades ranging from A* to C; a fine achievement when juggling jobs and being a parent with academic study.”

The course will be running again this year along with another course in GCSE maths, and the school hopes more local adults will sign up this time.

Meanwhile adults and families interested in signing up to the school’s Dab and Daub community art workshop to learn more about ceramic modelling should contact Allan Blake on 01278-410089.
