Green spaces campaigner grills Government figurehead

A Bridgwater green spaces campaigner put his concerns about local planning issues to a key Government figure during a trip to Whitehall.

Donald Raynor was part of a five-strong Save Our Green Spaces group who met with Steve Quatermain, the UK chief planning advisor and senior advisor to MP Eric Pickles, at the Communities and Local Government's Eland House headquarters.

Mr Rayner said he had told Mr Quartermain that for centuries, Bridgwater had grown only to meet employment opportunities, but that this was no longer the case, with factories closing and being replaced by unwarranted housing.

He told the Mercury: “The meeting went amazingly. Mr Quatermain and his assistant couldn't believe the stuff they were getting from us.”
