Charity figurehead celebrates fundraising success

A BRIDGWATER charity figurehead is celebrating the success of his unique fundraising initiative.

Mervyn Todd, of Books for Life in Eastover, spent a week fundraising for a different charity each day and raised an impressive £875.50.

Mr Todd, along with volunteers from the charities, sold various donated items from his shop to raise money for the Marion Evered Trust, the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Support Therapy, the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and the National Blind Children's Society.

He said: “More people discovered Eastover for the first time and some said they had no idea Hooks was still in business!

“We believe in charity beginning at home and this week of giving was very much apart of that.

“This was a beneficial week for the charities we had chosen as well as raising the profile of Eastover. It was a real success.”

A spokesman for the National Blind Children's Society said: “We would like to thank Mervyn for the wonderful opportunity to join the fundraising week in Eastover.

“Nigel Betts, book production manager, and Sandra Laver, customer services officer, went along to Eastover and saw for themselves the community spirit and support offered by local businesses.”
