A BIG-HEARTED Sedgemoor teenager has recorded a CD in memory of a close friend who died following an asthma attack.
Josh Cox (pictured), 13, a pupil at Haygrove School, in Bridgwater, died two days after the attack, which happened at a friend's house last October.
Ten months on, talented Sophii Negus, 14, from Ashcott, has recorded a song, Look to the Stars, in Josh's memory, to highlight the potentially lethal dangers of asthma.
All proceeds from sales of the CD, which is released on September 6, will go to Asthma UK.
She told the Mercury: “I was devastated when Josh died so I wrote the song about how I look up and talk to him when I feel down and it has helped me deal with it.
“I knew Josh from when he was at Crispin School with me but he moved to Haygrove shortly before he died.
“He was such a kind person and he loved to dance - that was his passion - and he was friends with everyone.
“I don't remember him having asthma…I knew he had an inhaler but I never saw him use it.
“When I heard about the attack I couldn't believe it and that's why I knew I had to do something to raise awareness about it.”
Sophii also said Josh's death had brought her and Josh's other friends closer to his mum Lyn.
She added: “I sent her the CD and she told me she and Josh's Nan both listened to it and loved it.”
Sophii's debut single is available in Bridgwater's String n 'Things, Glastonbury's Music shop and Jaywalk guitars of Street and to download on iTunes now.
