Pub team takes on TV's Eggheads

A GROUP of plucky Bridgwater brainboxes have taken on telly's top quiz team.

Matthew Collington, Glenn Fletcher, Joe Moretti, Greg Tapper, Mark Plummer and Chris Kendrick, aka the Trouble over Bridgwater team, pitted their wits against The Eggheads on the BBC 2 show of the same name.

Trouble over Bridgwater are regular competitors in the fortnightly quiz nights at The Crown Inn, in St John Street, Bridgwater, and filmed for the show last year, after a rigorous audition process.

The team are remaining tight-lipped about how they got on, but Mercury readers can find out when the show is aired next Monday night, at 6pm.

Mercury reporter spoke Rory McKeown spoke to human resources worker Matthew, and sales manager Glenn, at their Crown Inn base.

Matthew said: “We won the quiz a couple of times on the trot, and the landlord, Andy Balsom said we should appear on Eggheads.

“We all thought it would be a bit of fun, so we went for it.”

Glenn added: “It was a great day out and the game against the Eggheads was very balanced.”

For a bit of fun, Mercury News Editor Matthew Colledge decided to pit Trouble over Bridgwater members Glenn and Matthew against his reporter Rory.

He posed three questions, which were read out by Crown Inn quizmaster Andy.

In a fiercely contested battle, Rory came out on top, getting all three correct, while Matthew and Glenn got two right, but slipped up on the Groundhog Day question.
