We were s-wondering what happened to them!

FURTHER evidence has emerged this week that a family of swans feared to have been 'bird-napped' from Bridgwater's docklands are actually safe and well.

After we reported on the birds' mysterious disappearance, readers told the Mercury swans had been seen landing on the field opposite Dunball Wharf.

And this week, reader Peter Coleman wondered whether the birds in his picture were the docklands swans. He said: “I watched them for more than a week gathering daily near the south side of Bridgwater.”

Not much of a mystery really. Poor poor journalism. Might as well be reading the Daily Mail website. David Hemming, give the readers of Bridgwater some credit. Swans have wings... they fly.

Or on the other hand, you could be thankful that our local paper isn't full of murder, rape, and other massively serious crime?

I saw these swans when I was walking round the river bank opposite Dunball on Sunday. Some blokes who had driven there in a 4x4 (presumably the farmer or farm workers) were trying to scare them off the field by taking shots at them with a rifle. Thankfully they stopped shooting when they saw me walking along the bank. The swans appeared completely oblivious to the shots.
