Head teachers impressed with "stunning" new school plans

THE head teachers of Robert Blake Science College and Elmwood School in Bridgwater have welcomed “stunning” plans for their new schools.

The Mercury has reported how BAM, the winning bidder of Somerset County Council's Building Schools for the Future project, will rebuild Bridgwater's four secondary schools and two special schools - starting with Chilton Trinity Technology College (featured last week), Robert Blake and Elmwood.

Robert Blake and Elmwood will be rebuilt together on the same site.

There will be new facilities including a science arena, a sports arena and a health clinic run by Somerset Primary Care Trust, which will offer therapy rooms for Elmwood.

Ann Winter, head teacher at Robert Blake, said: “I think the plans are stunning.

“We have worked hard with BAM to ensure we put our ideas across and they have listened to us.

“The young people wanted something that resembled a university and judging by the plans, they have got that.

“I think it's wonderful and it's going to be a school where the whole community can come to use the various facilities it will offer.”

Jacqui Tobin, head teacher at Elmwood, said: “We are incredibly excited by the plans and I am really impressed with the way we have all worked together with the architects and with Robert Blake.

“It will break down the barriers between the two schools and will provide positive teaching and opportunities for the future.

“We just want it built now so we can have a walk around it!”
