Man fighting for life after gorge fall


A WALKER has suffered serious spinal injuries after falling in Cheddar Gorge.

The man is believed to have fallen between 40ft and 50ft (12m to 15m).

Fire crews from Cheddar and Bridgwater were called to the scene, along with a rescue tender from Bridgwater and a command support unit from Street.

Seven engines from Avon also attended the incident.

The man was rescued by the coastguard using rope rescue equipment and transported to ground level.

He was taken by air ambulance to Frenchay Hospital, in Bristol, with life-threatening injuries.
