MP steps up campaign against "ugly" pylons

Bridgwater MP Ian Liddell-Grainger is stepping up the fight against "eyesore" plyons linking Hinkley Point C with Avonmouth.

He was involved a debate in Parliament this week, led by fellow Tory MP Liam Fox, calling on National Grid to power the nuclear power plant with undergound cables instead of 37 miles of 46m-high pylons.

National Grid has put forward two potential routes, which it says are the only options available.

However, campaigners claim the development would be a blot on the landscape and lower house prices.

Mr Liddell-Grainger is urging people to contact him with their views.

He said: "There is no reason why this can't be done underground - these pylons are ugly.

"Myself, and fellow MPs will be raising this in the House of Commons again soon and I want to hear local people's views.

"It is important Bridgwater has its say."

I notice there's no mention of the undersea cable (again) which apparently is too costly but wouldn't be seen!
There have been plans for huge offshore windfarms, the cables for these would have to go undersea so why can't the Hinkley Point ones do likewise?

So Mr Liddell-Whinger is extremely happy to see built a concrete eyesore & very ugly new nuclear power station but doesnt want his "nobby" friends in the villages to put up with the pylons that actually make this controversial nuclear power station achieve its objectives. Why, if we have to put up with this ugly building ruining our countryside, should we taxpayers fork out a huge amount of our hard earned money so that Mr Liddell-Whinger's friends in the villages can keep a nice view out of their windows. Mr Liddell-Whinger has again shown where his priorities lie, keeping quiet about the Splash debacle, wanted by the people of Bridgwater, but doing everything he can for his tory villager friends. SHAME ON YOU

So our local MP seems to be getting his teeth into this one. What a shame he did not do the same to try and retain our much loved swimming pool. I have yet to have a reply to my letter and several emails to him with regard to Splash which were sent last October and November.

N.I.M.B.Y. Mr L-Grainger, Not in my back yard, but answer me this, if not in my back yard, than who's back yard? If you had supported your locals who voted for you, and stopped the local swimming pool closing rather than emailing yourself, (http://www.mysociet
y.org/2006/02/22/ian
-liddell-grainger/ yes old I know, but not many people are aware). Surely you would have more support from your locals??? Don't get me wrong come voting time the people will flock like sheep and vote blue in this area like they have done since 1950. I will point out I also vote Blue, but surely more time should be spent concentrating on local matters for local people? Maybe then you will truely become a popular person, rather than a quiet unknown? You have the safest seat in the whole of England, maybe time you earnt your money...............
