AVON and Somerset Police Authority is ‘performing well’ according to an official report.
The report – by the Audit Commission and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary -- measured how well the authority is managing and using its resources to deliver value for money and good service.
Authority Chair Dr Moira Hamlin said: “This was the first-ever inspection for police authorities and it is pleasing that they recognised that we are in a good position to build on the improvements we have already started.
“I’m pleased the Inspection Report recognised the advances we are making with Neighbourhood Policing, the doubling of the detection rates and significantly improved call handling.
“Our work in high-profile collaboration was also assessed as a strength and only last week we received a national award for one of our projects.
“The latest Government White Paper demonstrates that collaboration is key to the future of policing.
“Avon and Somerset is at the forefront of what the Home Office is recommending, as we have already started innovative ventures like Southwest One and the forensic science consortium.
“These projects are a blueprint for delivering the Home Office’s aims of ensuring savings, smarter working and improving services.
“The report confirms we are adding value to policing here in Avon and Somerset and we are well positioned to carry on the good work.”
