SELFLESS Bridgwater carer Lyn Norris should be celebrating her 62nd birthday tomorrow (Thursday).
Instead, her devastated daughter is praising the hospice which cared for her mum before her unexpected death and is organising a special event in her memory.
Lyn died of breast cancer in February despite being told nothing was wrong.
Her daughter Rachel Rooke said the diagnosis came as a complete shock because secondary breast cancer can be difficult to detect.
Soon after the disease was diagnosed Lyn was taken to St Margaret's Somerset Hospice to be cared for.
Rachel said: “We were told the hospice could only afford to care for my mum for two weeks and would then require professional care around the clock.
“She couldn't stay at home because my step-dad would have had to sell the house to pay for it so I said she could live with me.
“When the hospice found out they applied for funding to care for mum for another two years which was an incredibly kind gesture.”
In the end Lyn was only at the hospice for three days before she died but that offer has inspired Rachel and sister Ruth to raise money for the charity.
The pair are organising a ladies-only event at Bridgwater Town Hall on August 15 featuring world-famous strip act The Dreamboys.
Rachel added: “Mum was very shy but I think she would have loved this. It is so important to me to help the hospice so I am hoping as many women come along as possible.”
Tickets cost from £13.50 advance only and are available from either Rachel on 07811-043291 or Ruth on 07748-343451.
Rachel and Ruth are also on the lookout for raffle prizes from local firms.
