TUESDAY JANUARY 27 6.30pm Holocaust Memorial Day at King Square, Bridgwater. Members of the Bridgwater Peace Group will mark the occasion by meeting to lay flowers at the King Square Peace Memorial. 8pm (FILM) Dean Spanley at the Strode Theatre, Street. To alleviate the dreary formality of the obligatory weekly visits to his curmudgeonly father Horatio, Edwardian gent Henslowe Fisk arranges for them to attend a lecture on reincarnation by an Indian guru. At the event, Fisk junior is intrigued by an oddball clergyman, Dean Spanley, who, when plied with a little of his favourite Hungarian tipple, reveals the most extraordinary tale of his own past life - as a dog! 8pm Young@Heart at the Strode Theatre, Street. This touching, humours, delightful film follows a chorus of 75 - 93-year olds as they rehearse a series of rock songs for a new show before an audience of a thousand. Winner of Audience Awards at serval major film festivals, Young@Heart is an unusual mix of observational documentary and musical theatre. In the mouths of these old people, the familiar lyrics of rock songs acquire whole new meanings and a new poignancy. Their performances explode many of the big taboos surrounding old age: sex, loss of youth, sickness and death. 8pm Hearnshaw Barrett Duo at the Bridgwater Arts Centre. Jazz musicians have always taken popular tunes and made them their own. Following that great tradition, Charlie Hearnshaw and Andy Barrett present the results of their jazz investigations of George Gershwin and Burth Bacharach.
