A FUNDRAISING walk to celebrate the life of a Bridgwater man raised more than £7,700 for St Margaret's Somerset Hospice.

The walk from Taunton to Bridgwater was held to remember the life of Richard Phillips, who received specialist care from St Margaret's during his illness and at the end of his life.

It was organised by Richard's uncle Jim Shattock and 30 people took part, each walker representing one year of Richard's life.

Jim said: "Together with Richard's mum, dad and sisters, Beth and Amy, I would like to thank everyone who took part in the walk or sponsored the walkers.

"They have all been so generous which has made the walk such a success and has helped not only the hospice but our family as well."

Diana Davies, fundraising manager for St Margaret's, said: "We are so grateful to everyone who organized and took part in the walk.

"The funds raised have exceeded everyone's expectations. Translated into purchasing power, the funds will provide electricity for one of our hospices for six months. This is a remarkable contribution."
