THE Palace Nightclub in Bridgwater celebrates its 10th anniversary in style this Saturday night (January 26).

The club opens its doors for a special birthday spectacular - complete with acrobats, stilt walkers, magicians and a drag queen.

Since opening in 1997, the club has become a popular venue for clubbers in the town, as well as hosting successful live music gigs, including big names such as Badly Drawn Boy, The Scissor Sisters, and of course, Madness.

Clive Lilley, owner of The Palace Nightclub, spoke to the Mercury about when he and brother Bob first turned the venue into a club, ten years ago.

Clive said: "When we first looked at it we fell in love with the building and you could just see it as a club. We got positive feedback from people in the town who thought it was needed in Bridgwater.

"The council were very supportive as well and there was a lot of public support."

Clive also gave an insight into the club's 10th birthday celebrations, which sees a mix of performers ready to entertain an eager Bridgwater crowd.

"It will certainly be a different night - there will be acrobats on the roof. We also have jugglers, a drag artist, close up magicians and stilt walkers as well.

"We are trying to invite as many people as possible who were involved ten years ago - but the club will be open to everyone else as well. Hopefully it will be a really busy night."

DJ Jeff Strawbridge will also be playing the latest dance, RNB and modern party classic in the main room, while in the back room a DJ will take clubbers through the years with classic party anthems.

The Palace will be open from 10pm-3am and for more details call the venue on 01278-434507.
