CROWDS thronged the streets of Wiveliscombe earlier this month when the annual, much-loved Street Market and Carnival took over.

Glorious sunshine smiled on traders as they all did brisk business, selling a great selection of local food, drinks and crafts.

Jubilee Gardens became the stage for every kind of music, from Wivilele, the local ukulele band, to rock bands and community choirs.

The charming Wheelbarrow Carnival clowned its way through the town mid-afternoon to the delight of spectators, who saw circus interpreted in colourful and fun style.

Children became trapeze artists, human cannonballs and sequined lion tamers.

Chief guest, the Mayor of Taunton Deane Cllr Catherine Herbert, had a hard task judging all the entries, but first prize went to Wiveliscombe Brownies, who became a big top.

An event spokesman said: "Wivey people excelled themselves this year and made the street market one of the major events in the 10 Parishes year."
