MORE than 300 artists have opened up their workspaces for Somerset Open Studios.

There will plenty to see and do around Sedgemoor up until Sunday, September 30 with plenty of talented local artists giving members of the public a rare first-hand glimpse into their creative process.

Among those taking part in the Bridgwater area is ‘A Load of Old Scrap’, which creates incredible sculptures such as the owl above from scrap and salvaged metal.

The artist will have a range of sculptures on display as well as a video showing how the sculptures are made.

Located at The Old Chapel, Causeway, Woolavington, the studio will be open 10am to 5pm for the duration of the Open Studios fortnight.

In nearby Bawdrip, at 2 Greenfield Lane, printmaker Jackie Curtis is showing her works inspired by birds and the natural world between 10am and 6pm.

Just down the road at Church Villa, Church Path, Bawdrip, self-taught quilter Lorna Davies will be giving demonstrations between 10am and 6pm.

At Kingsmoor House in Bawdrip, Gina Scarbro has a range of painting, prints, film and textiles on display between 10am and 6pm.

Elsewhere textile designer and teacher Clare Harding-Jones has paintings and bespoke handmade-jewellery.

She is based The Barn, Church Way, Catcott and open 11am to 6pm.

You can see how unique glass artwork is made at Pallker Art Glass, Monmouth House, Westonzoyland between 10am and 5pm, while Shannon Watson is the Somerset Film artist in residence at The Engine Room for the Open Studios event.

Harriet Popham and Lizzie Ridout are hosting a joint collection at Huntstile Organic Farm between 11am and 6pm with painting, prints, ceramics and textiles, while in North Petherton at 18 Queens Street, Kate Doig and Sandy Flores exhibiting landscapes and clothing.

Opening her pottery studio at Parsonage Farm in Over Stowey for the first time, Suki Lilienthal will share her space with painter Juliet Harkness, which will be open to the public between 11am and 6pm.

There are also artists in Combwich and Burrowbridge taking part in this year’s event.
