FRIENDS and family organised a charity football match in memory of a Bridgwater man who took his own life a year ago.

The game, between a team of Blake Old Boys and a Rhode Lane side, was held at Fairfax Park in Bridgwater in memory of Adam Knight, who died aged 22 on September 9, 2017.

The event helped raise £1,522 for Papyrus, a charity which specialise in helping to prevent suicide in young adults.

One of Adam’s friends, and one of the match organisers Jack Fairfax, said: “Adam was a great friend to us all and team mate to us lads at Rhode Lane. He was a talented footballer and a truly remarkable young man.

“Adam was always fun to have around, constantly laughing and joking with his teammates. He was the most caring, lovable person, who always knew the meaning of being a true friend.

“We had a really good turn out and the match was played in good spirit.”

Jack said the event will be held annually to raise awareness of mental health issues that are often overlooked, and help those in need remember ‘it is ok not to be ok’ and talk to someone."

The match was an exciting affair, finishing 4-4, with Rhode Lane taking the win on penalties.
