THE UK's leading nuclear watchdog is planning to sue EDF and one of its contractors after an employee was injured at Hinkley B.
Today (Wednesday, August 22), the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) announced that it has notified EDF and Doosan Babcock Ltd of its intention to prosecute both companies.
The chrages related to an incident which happened on April 12, 2017, when a Doosan Babcock Ltd employee suffered an injury.
The ONR describe the incident as a 'conventional health and safety matter' and said there 'was no radiological risk to workers or the public'.
EDF will be prosecuted for offences under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, section 3(1) and Doosan Babcock Ltd for offences under the Work at Height Regulations 2005, Regulation 4(1).
The decision to prosecute follows an investigation into the incident by ONR, the UK’s independent nuclear safety regulator.
Proceedings are currently scheduled to commence at Bath Magistrates Court on Wednesday, September 12.
An EDF Energy spokesperson said: “We are reviewing the charges against us and considering our response.
"As we would in any industrial safety incident of this nature we have and will continue to cooperate fully with the ONR”
