BRIDGWATER & Taunton College students have been celebrating their best ever A Level results.

Students have achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in 30 A Level subjects, contributing to an overall pass rate this year of 98.5 per cent.

On top of this, 50 per cent of students achieved superb A* to B grades, continuing the year on year increase in A Level high grades attained at the College.

Andy Berry, college principal and chief executive said: “We are absolutely delighted that our students have achieved the best ever results the College has seen.

"It has been great to be part of today’s results day and hear all of the success stories and exciting plans of our students who are off to pursue their passions at some top universities such as Imperial College, London, University of Bristol, Birmingham University and Exeter University.

"The A Level programme is one of our flagship qualifications at the College and we are thrilled with this year’s results.”

Some of the most successful subjects were fine art, further maths, music and design and technology.

Jenny Ashworth, assistant principal for A Levels, arts and professional studies said: “It has been a fantastic year for our A Level results, with the number of students achieving A* to A grades rising to 20 per cent and our top ten students achieving 30 A* and A grades between them.

"Today is all about our students, and our staff have loved being with them and their families as they opened their results.”

DELIGHTED: Florence Nicholson-Lailey

A Level students who have done particularly well include Florence Nicholson-Lailey who achieved four A*s and plans on attending Royal Holloway, University of London, and Katherine Bethell who received an A* and two As, and has been accepted by Imperial College London to study Medical Bioscience.

HIGHFLYER: Callum Topazio

Other highflyers include Callum Topazio from Haygrove School with four As who will be studying English Literature at Reading University in September, Samuel Matravers, also from Haygrove School, who achieved three A*s and Thomas Brown who is off to Imperial College London after achieving an outstanding four A*s in Further Maths, Maths and Physics.

Bridgwater Mercury:

Students studying the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme also had an outstanding year with students achieving an average score of 32 points, placing them above the global average of 30 points.

Furthermore, several students achieved very high scores between 35 and 40 points, and gained places at a number of prestigious universities such as Bristol University, Kings College London, Newcastle University and Exeter University.
