A NEW Banksy which appeared in a Somerset town has vanished - less than a day after it was first spotted.

The stencil, painted onto a triangular hazard warning road sign and attached to a lamppost, depicts two youngsters carrying the older generation on their backs.

Banksy's message behind the work remains unclear - but it has been confirmed as an authentic piece after it was uploaded to the artist's official Instagram account, which has more than 2.4 million followers.

The sign was spotted on The Beach, in Clevedon, on Friday afternoon.

It is just a short drive from Banksy's hometown of Bristol - but when fans went to view it on Saturday morning the artwork had already vanished, with mystery surrounding whether it was removed or stolen.

Louise Courtney, who works at a nearby cafe, said: "When I got into work at around 7.45am, I went to have a look at the Banksy, but sadly it had already gone.

"I'd had a call at around 7am from a friend saying that she couldn't see anything there. So I think it must have been taken overnight."
