FIREFIGHTERS from Burnham-on-Sea rushed to a field in East Huntspill after a bonfire became out of control.

One fire engine was sent to fight the fire on Withy Road at 8.44am on August 1 but its origin was unknown.

When crews arrived they found the bonfire, which measured 10m x 5m, was made up of wood chippings and horse manure and was close to spreading to nearby trees and vegetation.

Crews used hose reel jets and drag forks to extinguish the fire before it spread.

Firefighters gave the person who lit the bonfire fire safety advice and returned to the station just after 10.30am.
