MIDDLEZOY lost their relegation battle with Ashbrittle by four wickets in the Somerset League Premier on Saturday.

Batting first, Middlezoy reached 185-6 with Nathan Barnard giving them a chance with an unbeaten 61.

Ashbrittle’s reply was based around a big opening stand and, despite wickets falling to Ben Warren (2-34) and Josh Metcalfe (2-15), they came home with 11 overs to spare.

Shapwick & Polden 2s fell 30 runs short in a high-scorer against Taunton Deane 2s.

The Deane posted a challenging 267-9 with consistent batting throughout as Rob Travers took 4-26 off nine.

Shapwick’s reply was led by a fine 78 from Tom Smith but they fell short of their target.

In Division 2, Bridgwater 3s lost another high-scorer to second-placed Minehead, who hit 315-5 thanks to half-centuries from four of their top five.

Bridgwater’s reply saw Mike Skidmore (65) and Sethan Locke (69) take up the challenge but Brandon Rawle’s 4-35 tipped the scales in Minehead’s favour.

Kilve had a disappointing defeat at the hands of Division 3 basement Huish & Langport, finishing 15 short of their 260-7.

A century from Huish opener 112 and 71 from Gem Goffin set the scene, despite Sam James’ fine spell of 4-36.

Consistent batting kept Kilve up with the chase but once Carl Clemenson (47) and Marc Girling (46) had fallen, the game was up.

North Newton lost their clash with Lympsham & Belvedere by 32 runs, despite only chasing 174-6.

Lympsham’s Sam McCrea top-scored with 45 but North Newton lost wickets regularly with only Cameron Street (37) looking comfortable as their innings petered out for 146.

Wembdon 2s coasted to a 162-run victory against Chard 2s after reaching 265-6.

Tom Lott was again the star of their innings, hitting a smashing 164, which included 24 4s and three 6s.

Chard were blown away and were all out for 103, Steve Harvey and Max Syvret taking three wickets apiece.

In Division 6N, Shapwick & Polden 3s won a low-scorer after restricting Burnham-on-Sea 2s for just 128-9.

Russ Edwards (3-14) and Peter Royall (3-27) did the damage but Shapwick’s reply stuttered with Liam Darlington (40) and Cameron Birch (43no) saving the day.

Bridgwater Pointers fell foul of the run-hungry Trull 2s, who batted first and posted 297-2 as John England hit a century and Rory Stone 63, in Division 6S.

The challenge was too daunting for the Pointers but they offered resistance through Joe Redman (39) and Mike Luckes (26no) before closing on 145-9.

Leaders Spaxton enjoyed a 114-run win against Long Sutton after Richard Baker hit an unbeaten 56 in a total of 225-7.

When Sutton replied, John Bishop (4-16 off 6) and Dave Pople (3-6 off 6) finished off the innings after the openers posted a 53-run stand.

North Petherton 2s registered an 81-run win against Taunton 3s after posting 259-6 thanks to 86 from Eddy Stone and 55 from Scott Briffett.

When Taunton replied, they found Briffett (3-32) and Jordan Boobyer (3-30) in fine form and were all out for 178.

In Division 8N, Wembdon 4s chased down Cranmore 2s’ 187-6 to win by three wickets.

Paul Cook (3-33) was the pick of the Wembdon bowlers as Nick Knight hit 68 and Darren Butt 53 for Cranmore.

Ben Stone led Wembdon’s reply with an opening 50 and Tyler Fagan (42) steadied the middle order to set up the victory.
