PLANS have been submitted for 24 new homes and nine new apartments close to one of Bridgwater's busiest roads.

Nick Hutchings architect Ltd has submitted plans on behalf of developers Abracore Ltd for the development of the former Bigwood & Stable site on Church Street in Bridgwater, just down from The Clink.

The site is located is 0.233 hectares and the development is applying for permission to build 24 two-bedroom town houses, six one-bedroom apartments and three two-bedroom apartments on the land.

The developers are also proposing 31 car parking spaces, two of which will be suitable for disabled use.

In the application Mr Hutchings states: "The site falls within the Sedgemoor District Local Plan, lying within the town centre of Bridgwater, it is sandwiched between two areas designated as conservation areas in the Local Plan.

"The proposals will not be detrimental to the appearance or character of these areas."

The nine apartments would be built in a three-storey block to the rear of the development.

Plans to develop the site were given approval in 2013 but the land was not developed on.

The industrial site has ceased operations and been demolished.

The site for development though still has areas of concrete and tarmacked surfaces, all of which would need to be cleared prior to construction process.

Mr Hutchings added: "The Clink is a very busy road, which runs directly adjacent to the northern site boundary.

"The northern façade would need to incorporate a noise attenuation and ventilation proposal to minimise the impact of noise on the flats that face The Clink."

Comments on the application are welcome until Tuesday, July 31.
