ENMORE Park enjoyed a thumping 5-0 win over Burnham & Berrow in their Somerset Bowl (foursomes) match this week.

Clapp Snr and Clapp Jnr led the way with a 4&2 win against two good county players, while Ryan Brewer and Spud Wright won 4&3.

Then came the grudge match that pitted Mike Rosso and Matt Lazenby against Andy Harriott and partner; it was a close encounter but Rosso and Lazenby prevailed 1up.

Neil Whistler and Ronnie Brown strolled to a 7&6 victory, and finally Tim Jones and Dom Bancroft cruised home 5&3.

Enmore will play Weston in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Enmore’s past captains hosted their counterparts from Wells and Worlebury on Wednesday, for a triangular match that dates back almost 50 years to when all three were nine-hole courses with very modest clubhouses.

On the day, George Davis from Wells had an outstanding round, scoring 42 points, and his score was the difference between the teams, seeing Wells home by three points in the team score.

It was local derby time on Monday in the Avalon Seniors League, when Cannington travelled to Enmore Park.

Once again, home advantage was vital and there were early wins for Mike Rossiter and John Taylor, Phil Hodge and Phil Taylor, and Paul Martin and Neil Whisler.

However, two matches went to the 18th and saw rare successes for visitors Steve Fisher and Ray Cavill, and Glyn Sewell and Colin Gardener.

Sunday brought the Junior Club Championship, with a good turnout.

Jacob Gamble’s shot gross of 71 71 to win was very impressive in blustery conditions.

Will Andrews won the nett, helped by a morning score of 58.

THE June Monthly Stableford was the competition on the opening day of the weekend at Brean and Gordy Wheelaghan led the way with a 42-point return.

This gave him top spot in Division Three as he was four points clear of runner-up Rich Lambert and five clear of third-placed Tony Osborne.

Division Two was claimed by Jeff Read with a score of 41.

Steve Mason was his nearest challenger but he still ended two shy of Read’s winning total.

Ian Adams took third on countback from Martyn Cahill after both players had 37.

Another countback was required to separate the top two in Division One.

Dan Broom accumulated a 40-point card early in the day but it was matched by Leighton Jenkins.

Broom had the better back nine and was declared the winner.

Adam Cox took third with 39 and he, like the majority of the other leading scores did, saw his handicap reduced by a stroke.

Three players all returned 38s in Sunday’s Super Series round and back nine countback was needed to determine the finishing order of the top three.

Murray Parsons was declared the winner with 24 of his points coming on the homeward run.

Mark Jenkins had to settle for second, with Roger Phillips ending up third.

The Seniors secured a quickfire double over their near-neighbours at Weston on Thursday.

Led by captain Chris Stephens, they followed up last week’s away win with a 4-2 victory against the same opponents on home soil.
