POLICE have arrested a suspect following a large-scale two-day manhunt for an alleged armed man in Bridgwater.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed this morning (Monday, June 18) that a man in his 30s has been arrested and remains in custody while investigations are underway.

Police were called to Thorncombe Crescent in Sydenham at 7.30pm on Saturday night (June 16) following reports of a man seen with what was believed to be a firearm.

Armed police attended the scene and searched a number of addresses in an attempt to locate the individual.

A police helicopter was also involved in the search. Police were also spotted along Parkway, Rhode Lane, Haygrove Road, Bath Road, St John Street, Gloucester Road and Taunton Road during the course of the investigation.

A police spokesman said: "We would appeal to anyone with any information to call us."
