THE dynamism and drive of crooked determination is powering ahead in Get Shorty on Sky Atlantic.

The MGM production of this drama/thriller/comedy has been created by Davey Holmes and is based on the 1990 novel Get Shorty by Elmore Leonard.

The lead role is played by Chris O’Dowd as Miles Daly. He is what you would call a ‘fixer’. He gets rid of dead bodies and makes problems go away with his working partner, Louis as played by Sean Bridgers.

While ‘on job’ Louis shoots someone they had to deal with and low and behold he has written a script.

Miles takes the script and starts touting it around as if it were his own and passes it off as being written by his partner.

He pitches the idea of getting into the movie business to his boss Amara (Lidia Porto) as a way of making a film and laundering dirty money.

She initially invests $2m but this rises to $4m.

Miles has one main aim which is to get the film made. He wants to do something substantial, something creative and something which is worthwhile and important.

Miles has already been seduced by the bright lights and Hollywood glamour.

This includes the world in which he finds himself in LA and his passion for old Hollywood films which he prefers over modern films.

He manages to entice low budget producer Rick Moreweather (Ray Romano) into the project and from there on things escalate.

There is violence, there is bad language but it is not over done. What you witness is no more than you would see in a cinema film and it is not in any way graphic.

For me the four stand out actors are Chris O’Dowd, Ray Romano, Lidia Porto and Sean Bridgers.

They bring sparkle to proceedings and add an extra dimension to proceedings.

There are a number of stories going on at the same time and each one moves along at a pace.

You do get sucked into the stories, the main one being trying to get 'The Admiral’s Daughter' made on the big screen.

There is an old adage ‘crime does not pay’ it might not pay but it could get you into the movie business.

This is a multi-layered Battenberg cake of a show. There are different layers to it but with the same strand of menace, violence, extortion and blackmail running through it.

Criminal activity in the movie business-is blinded by glitz and glamour, while 'the suits' are blinded by the flow of cash and promise of even more, even if it is dirty money which is trying to be laundered to become clean money.

What will pay you is to give this series being shown on Sky Atlantic series a go. You can download all episodes from Season one now.

I thought I would give it a go and now I am hooked. I look forward to series two.
