DEVELOPERS seeking to build a huge new estate in Woolavington have upped the number of homes they want to build.

In May, Gladman Developments submitted a 'screening opinion' application to see whether an Environmental Impact Assessment for up to 125 homes on land north of Cossington Lane.

However this week a planning application has gone in - and now Gladman's is looking for permission for 'up to 145 homes' on the site.

Sedgemoor District Council’s emerging local plan concluded that Woolavington is capable of sustaining an additional 225 houses up to 2032.

As well the 145 homes, Gladman is also proposing areas of public open space, a community orchard and play facilities.

There are also plans for engineering works which will need to be undertaken for a drainage system.

A new, single access road would be built off Cossington Lane via a priority junction, however at Woolavington's Parish Council meeting in May, a number of residents expressed concerns over the potential impact of the development on traffic.

In the application, a Gladman states: “There is also allowance for community facilities that may emerge through the consultation process which are fairly and reasonably related to the proposed development.”
